Tsutsui wants election process changed for lt. gov.

HONOLULU (AP) - Hawaii Lt. Gov. Shan Tsutsui believes the process for electing the lieutenant governor should change.

The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports he will push a bill that will have the governor select a lieutenant governor as his running mate instead of running separately.

He says otherwise, it's like a forced marriage. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't.

Tsutsui has seen it both ways.

Under former Gov. Neil Abercrombie, Tsutsui was heavily involved in running government. But the new governor, David Ige, has a different style. Ige told the newspaper last month while he and the lieutenant governor have a good relationship, Tsutsui is not part of the decision-making process.

Ige would have to approve the bill for it to be part of his legislative package.
