Big Island police charge man in connection with Pahoa stabbing

PAHOA, BIG ISLAND (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Big Island police have charged a man in connection with last week's Pahoa stabbing. 

61-year-old Boris Ivanovich Vereshak was charged with assault. 

Police first arrested the Pahoa resident on October 9 for first-degree assault. 

The victim, a 24-year-old man, was stabbed several times on Wednesday, October 7, police said. He was taken to a hospital in serious condition.

The incident happened on the 13-0800 block of Pohoiki Road. Police said the two men were arguing when they got into a brawl. The suspect sustained a minor head injury when a bystander intervened.

Vereshak's bail has been set at $10,000.
