Woman sentenced to prison for using hatchet in 2014 robbery

KAILUA-KONA, Hawaii (AP) - A woman who pleaded guilty to a robbery charge after using a hatchet to try and steal a Corvette from a driver on the Big Island has been sentenced to at least two years in prison.

West Hawaii Today reports 26-year-old Trinety Crapser, formerly of Ocean View, was sentenced Wednesday. She pleaded guilty in June to first-degree robbery as part of a plea deal in connection to the January 2014 incident.

The victim, Trudi Grentz, said she had stopped to place signs along the road in Kau when Crapser, wielding a hatchet, tried to steal her Corvette. Grentz said she was eventually able to take control of the weapon.

Crapser's plea deal required the judge to lower the mandatory minimum sentencing.

Crapser was also granted a delayed entry until December, so she can breastfeed her daughter.
