HONOLULU (AP) - Hawaii Gov. David Ige is traveling to Japan and China to promote educational partnerships, energy cooperation and investment in Hawaii.

He'll also be celebrating the thirtieth anniversary of Hawaii's sister-state relationships with Okinawa Prefecture in Japan and Guangdong Province in China.

Ige said in a statement Tuesday he'll be traveling through Oct. 14.

He'll be meeting government officials and businesses leaders to talk about projects based on Hawai'i's 100 percent renewable energy goal. He also wants to expand travel to the islands for conventions and meetings.

Ige plans to meet with educators, students and administrators at universities and high schools in both countries to expand international student exchanges with Hawaii. He says international students contributed an estimated $205 million to Hawaii's economy in 2015.

The trip will cost about $8,800.
