Flood Advisory extended for parts of Big Island

KAMUELA, HAWAII (HawaiiNewsNow) -

A Flood Advisory is in effect for parts on the Big Island until 5 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

At 8:05 a.m., radar showed heavy rain, falling at up to 1 inch per hour, along the Hamakua Coast, from Upolu Point to Laupahoehoe.

Locations in the advisory includes, but are not limited to Kapaau, Honokaa, Kamuela, Laupahoehoe, Kukuihaele, Paauilo, Halaula, Hawi and Mahukona.

Forecasters advise staying away from drainage ditches and low-lying area prone to flooding. Rainfall and runoff can also cause hazardous driving conditions.
