Nearly 9 months after surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff, Los Angeles Lakers guard Kobe Bryant returned to action in Honolulu on Sunday afternoon, albeit it during the NBA's preseason, during a 90-71 loss to the Utah Jazz.

Bryant, who played all 12 minutes in the game's first quarter but not a minute after it, finished the game with 4 points on 1-for-4 shooting.

"A lot of upside, and the pieces compliment each other extremely well," Bryant said of the team the Lakers have assembled in 2015. "It's just a matter of kind of getting in a rhythm in these games. It's just getting timing down, getting acclimated to that again."

Reserve guard Lou Williams, acquired in the offseason as a free agent who was not resigned by the Toronto Raptors, led the Lakers with 14 points. Nick Young added 10 points and 4 rebounds.

Forward Derrick Favors scored 16 points for the Jazz, who arrived in Honolulu on Saturday after opening training camp it Utah earlier this week.

The Lakers play a second preseason game against the Jazz on Tuesday afternoon at the Stan Sheriff Center before returning to the mainland to continue training camp.
