55-year-old man killed in Haleiwa pedestrian accident on Kamehameha Highway

HALEIWA, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

A man died early Saturday morning on October 3 after being struck by a vehicle on Kamehameha Highway in Haleiwa.

The accident occurred at 2:05 a.m. about a quarter mile south of Pohaku Loa Way.

The driver, identified as a Haleiwa man, was traveling north when for unknown reasons his vehicle left the roadway and struck a pedestrian.

The 55-year-old victim, sustained critical injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash once emergency crews arrived.

The driver was not injured.

Speed is being investigated as a possible factor, but it is unknown if alcohol played a role at this time.

This is the 40th traffic fatality of the year, compared to 48 at the same time last year.
