'Canstruction' begins competition at Pearlridge Center

The American Institute of Architect, Honolulu Chapter held the 10th 'canstruction' competition at Pearlridge Center today on October 3rd. 10 teams of local architects, builders, and allied design and engineering professionals will use only cans to 'canstruct' different types of structures. The theme is year is 'Rock-Can-Roll.

Kids also had a chance to participate by building special structures of their own. Anyone could join as long as they donated at least five cans of food each. The public was also asked to donate canned food, and to vote for the best canned-food structures.

'Canstruction' is a national commuity serve program created by the Society for Design Administration on behalf of the design ad contruction industry. The Canstruction competition in Pearlridge Center has raised 306,656 pounds of needed canned food for the Hawaii Foodbank. This is equal to 250,000 meals for hungry families in our community.

The 'Decanstruction' will take place on the afternoon of Sunday, October 18th.
