KALIHI, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

A two-alarm house fire in Kalihi sent an elderly woman to the hospital on Friday. The flames started at about 9:45 a.m. at a home on Bernice Street near Bishop Museum. 31 firefighters responded to the emergency call. They doused the flames in 20 minutes. An 80-year-old woman was hospitalized for smoke inhalation, according to authorities.

"One of the neighbors pulled her out of the building initially so I'm not quite sure where she was, but according to the neighbor, she normally is on the first floor," said Battalion Chief John Bowers of the Honolulu Fire Department.

Bowers said the woman lives with her daughter and son-in-law who were not home at the time. The damage is confined to a downstairs bedroom.
