Several City and County vehicles vandalized in structure near HPD headquarters

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

The Honolulu Police Department has opened an investigation after more than a dozen vehicles were vandalized earlier this week.

Eight City and County vehicles and five employee vehicles had the tires slashed while parked in a garage Monday and Tuesday.

The parking structure is located near the Honolulu Police station on Beretania Street. The City did not send out a notice to employees warning them to be on alert for suspicious activity.

"The Civic Center parking structure is an open structure in the sense that people are able to enter and exit without having to go through any security check," explained Ross Sassamura, Director of the Department of Facility Maintenance. "There are no access controls, it's difficult for us to secure the structure."

If you have any tips, call police.
