Tennessee Titans rookie quarterback Marcus Mariota has been named the NFL's offensive rookie of the month for September, according to a release from the Titans website.
Mariota, who made his first three NFL starts in September, completed 61-of-97 passes for 833 yards and eight touchdowns. He was intercepted twice during that span, but his 109.2 passer rating ranks among the top quarterbacks in the conference.
The Titans say Mariota is fourth Tennessee player to win the award, following Eddie George (September 1996), Jevon Kearse (September, November and December 1999) and Chris Johnson (September 2008).
After winning his professional debut, against Tampa Bay, Mariota and the Titans have lost consecutive games to Cleveland and Indianapolis to start the year. With two touchdowns last Sunday against the Colts, Mariota tied Mark Rypien's NFL record for the most touchdowns in a quarterback's first three starts (8), set back in 1988.
The Titans next play at home against Buffalo on October 11.
