Judy K removed, towed from Honolulu Harbor

The fishing vessel that was partially submerged in the Honolulu Harbor for months has finally been removed and towed to Kewalo Basin.

The state Department of Transportation on Monday arranged for the 77-foot Judy K to be moved from Pier 16 to a dry dock at the Honolulu Marine Shipyard. Because the Judy K sustained structural damage, the vessel will be scrapped and its metal parts will be recycled.

The cost of the disposal is $52,000, the DOT said.

The Judy K had been sitting Honolulu Harbor since mid-January, but a team of U.S. Army divers refloated the vessel in September. Officials said the efforts saved the state $100,000 compared to what a private contractor would’ve charged.
