2-alarm building fire in Aiea displaces family of 5

AIEA, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Nearly 30 Honolulu firefighters extinguished a building fire Tuesday in Aiea that displaced a family of five.

Firefighters responded to the two-alarm fire just before 5:35 p.m. and arrived at the three-story, multiple-family complex on Kaonohi Street. By the time they arrived on scene, heavy smoke was emanating from a second-story window.

Firefighters brought the fire under control by 5:45 p.m. It was fully extinguished by 6 p.m.

Investigators later determined the fire was caused by overcooked food.

No injuries were reported, but the displaced family made arrangements to stay with family members for the night.

The damage is estimated at $15,000 to the structure and $5,000 to its contents.
