A homeless man has been found guilty of manslaughter in the 2014 beating death of Shelton Higa.

Officials say the jury deliberated for five hours over two days before coming to a verdict after they received the case on Monday.

35-year-old Michael Abella had been charged with second-degree murder.

On July 17, 2014, 57-year-old Higa was the victim of an unprovoked attack in Chinatown when he suffered severe head injuries caused by Abella.

Higa was taken to a local hospital where he later died due to severe bleeding in his brain.

Abella faces the possibility of 20 years behind bars when he receives his sentencing in December.
