Young students, ranging in age from three to seven, from the Elevate Academics Learning Center in Waimea, Hawaii, got the chance to visit a hospital to learn from their nurses and doctors. The goal of the project was for the kids to learn about what it is like to visit the doctor.

"Exposing kids to some of the things they may see when they have to visit the doctor or the hospital helps reduce their fear," said Parin Patel, MD, a general surgeon at North Hawaii Community Hospital.

The learning experience included how to use thermometers, stethoscopes, and otoscopes, and also the importance of bicycle helmets and hand-washing.

Hospital tours at the North Hawaii Comminity Hospital are available for all community groups. Contact North Hawaii Community Hospital Special Events office at 881-4425.
