High Surf Advisory in effect for east-facing shores of Hawaiian islands

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Strong trade winds associated with Niala will produce high surf along east-facing shores on Monday. As a result, the National Weather Service has issued a High Surf Advisory for east-facing shores of Kauai, Oahu, Molokai, Maui and the Big Island until 6 p.m. Monday.

Forecasters said surf will be between 5 to 8 feet -- along east-facing shores of the all islands under the advisory, and southeast-facing shores of the Big Island -- through the afternoon.

Beachgoers should expect strong breaking waves, shore break and strong longshore and rip currents, making swimming difficult and dangerous.
