HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Marcus Mariota threw the first two interceptions of his NFL career on Sunday, including one that was returned for a touchdown, and the Tennessee Titans lost to the Indianapolis Colts, 35-33.

Scoring on Sunday by both teams was largely done in turn; Indianapolis scored the first 14 points of the game to lead things 14-2 as the game neared halftime, but a Mariota touchdown pass to Kendall Wright from 7 yards out closed the Titans to within four. An 8 yard rush by Antonio Andrews gave Tennessee a 17-14 lead, and a 3-yard pass from Mariota to Dorial Green-Beckham made it 24-14 midway through the third quarter.

A field goal from Ryan Succop lifted the Titans lead to 13, ending a run of 27 straight points for Tennessee.

Indianapolis wasted little time going on a run of its own; Andrew Luck threw for two touchdown passes in less than a minute to start the fourth quarter, and a six-yard rushing touchdown from Frank Gore gave the Colts a lead they would not relinquish, though not out of a lack of effort by the Titans.

Down 35-27, Mariota led Tennessee down the field on a methodological drive with the Titans hurry-up offense that ended with a Jaston Fowler touchdown run from a yard out, closing the Colt's lead to 35-33.

Needing a two point conversion to extend the game to overtime, Mariota attempted a pass to Kendall Wright that fell incomplete, but officials whistled Indianapolis for pass interference. With the retry on the one yard line, with the game on the line, Tennessee lined up in a jumbo set and ran off left center, but Fowler was tackled for a 16-yard loss after trying to evade tacklers and extend the game.

"That call had been successful previously," Mariota said after the game. "I thought we could kind of quick count them and get it in. Unfortunately, it just didn't work."

With two touchdowns on Sunday, Mariota tied a record (8) set by Mark Rypien in 1988 for the most touchdowns in a quarterback's first three starts.
