Portion of H-1 Freeway closed overnight after critical motorcycle accident

A 36-year-old male was traveling westbound in the Halawa area at a high speed on the H-1 Freeway around 12:30 a.m. Sunday when the motorcyclist hit the rear end of a passenger van.

Upon impact, the motorcyclist was ejected from his motorcycle. The driver of the passenger van was not injured.

All lanes of the H-1 westbound between the Arizona and H-3 offramp were closed for nearly two hours after the accident as emergency crews responded.

The motorcyclist was transported to a Honolulu area hospital in critical condition. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.

It is unknown at this time if alcohol was a contributing factor in the crash.
