HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

UPDATE:

After being evaluated by a physician on Monday morning, Mililani High School quarterback McKenzie Milton was diagnosed with an AC joint sprain and is expected to miss 3-5 weeks.

Milton, the state's reigning offensive player of the year, could still play again in 2015, depending on the length of the Trojans playoff run.

The HHSAA football playoffs typically run through the middle of November. Mililani is the reigning state division one champion.

The Trojans end their regular season against Moanalua on Friday.

ORIGINAL STORY:

Mililani Trojans quarterback McKenzie Milton, the state's reigning division-one offensive player of the year, left Saturday night's game against Kailua with an apparent shoulder injury and did not return.

Milton, who completed just one pass for 30 yards before being sidelined, was seen on the sideline with his shoulder pads removed and trainers tending to his injured shoulder.

Reports from the field indicate that Milton left Kailua High School to receive treatment from a physician at an area hospital. He is expected to undergo an MRI early this week.

In Milton's absence, Trojans back-up quarterback Kaysen Higa led Mililani to a 45-21 win over the Surfriders. Mililani clinched the OIA Blue-division title with Saturday's win.

On Sunday, Mililani head football coach Rod York confirmed to Hawaii News Now that Milton was expected to miss significant time with the injury, saying he did not expect the senior to play again this season.

Further tests on the quarterback's shoulder this week will determine his status for the remainder of the season.
