Leeward Oahu residents rally to remember pedestrian killed

KAPOLEI, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

On Thursday morning, leeward Oahu residents urged pedestrian safety at a rally to remember Aulani Halemano.

Signwavers held pictures of the 32-year-old on Farrington Highway near Mohihi Street in Waianae, where Halemano died after being hit by a truck while in a crosswalk on Tuesday morning.

22-year-old Steven Campos was arrested at the scene.

"If you need us to paint this crosswalk, we'll paint it. If you need me to go get reflectors I'll go get it, but we cant just wait a year after someone has died and then address an issue that we know will potentially endanger someone else," said Representative Andria Tupola.

Tupola says the community is willing to help raise money to pay for immediate improvements to the crosswalk to honor Halemano memory and prevent more pedestrian accidents.
