Flood Advisory issued for portion of Big Island

BIG ISLAND (HawaiiNewsNow) - The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a Flood Advisory for the Big Island until 5:45 p.m. Thursday.

At 2:49 p.m. rain gauges showed heavy showers along the leeward slopes of the Big Island from Kailua Kona to Hawaiian Ocean View Estates. Rain is falling at more than three inches per hour in the heaviest areas. Expect additional heavy showers through the afternoon.

Locations in the advisory include but are not limited to Captain Cook, Honaunau, Honaunau-Napoopoo, and Keauhou.

This advisory may need to be extended heavy rain persists.
