HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Dr. Edwin C. Cadman, former dean of UH Manoa's John A. Burns School of Medicine, died Wednesday, September 23, surrounded by his family in Corvallis, Oregon.
Among his many accomplishments, Dr. Cadman is credited with working with former Gov. Ben Cayetano to establish the medical school campus that now stands in Kakaako.
Cadman served as the dean of Hawaii's medical school from 1999 until 2005 when he stepped down after learning that he suffered from Primary Progressive Aphasia (PPA), a rare degenerative condition that affects patients' ability to articulate thoughts in speech or writing. There is no cure for PPA.
Cadman was 70 years old. Plans for a memorial service have not yet been announced.
