WAILEA, Maui (HawaiiNewsNow) - A 70-year-old Nevada man is dead after he was pulled unresponsive from waters off Wailea Sunday.
The Maui County Fire Department said rescue crews arrived at Polo Beach shortly before 4 p.m. and found Kea Lani Resort staff on the beach performing CPR on the victim.
Authorities said the man was visiting from Gardnerville, Nevada, and was last see swimming in the area. Beachgoers found him unresponsive in the water and pulled him ashore. When hotel staff noticed the commotion, they responded and immediately began CPR.
Firefighters and paramedics continued life-saving efforts, but authorities said the man died at the scene.
