WAIKIKI (HawaiiNewsNow) - The City's Department of Environmental Services responded Friday morning to a sanitary sewer overflow at 2500 Kalakaua Avenue.
ENV received the call at 7:19 a.m., arrived at the site at 8:12 a.m. and released the blockage at 8:34 a.m.
Grease clogged a 6-inch pipe sending 3,000 gallons of raw sewage out a manhole at 2500 Kalakaua Avenue. Crews were able to recover 250 gallons with the remaining 2,750 gallons dissipating in a storm drain at the corner of Kealohilani and Kuhio avenues. A crew confirmed that none of the spill reached receiving water.
ENV notified the state Department of Health, who waived signing and sampling. The affected area was cleaned, disinfected and deodorized.
