HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - It's time for the weekly hotel occupancy report with Howard Dicus!
Kauai went down to 67% full which is about the same as last year. Room rates are up, but only about 1%.
Oahu went form 82% to 83%, but that was 6 points worse than a year ago at this time. Room rates are down but still more than $200 per night.
Maui was at 70% full last week which is 2 points lower than the year before. Room rates are also down from last year.
Big Island is at 59% full which is slightly lower than a year ago, with room rates up about 3%.
This is shoulder season so this is to be expected. If you're planning a "staycation" and you'd like to visit another island this is the best time of the year to get a better rate than usual and ask for a kamaaina rate.
