Hanauma Bay to reopen Saturday following tsunami threat

HAWAII KAI, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

The Department of Parks and Recreation announced Friday that Hanauma Bay will reopen on Saturday.

The popular tourist attraction in east Oahu was closed for two days following a large earthquake in Chile that triggered a Tsunami Advisory for Hawaii on Wednesday. The 8.3 magnitude quake sent a small tsunami surge and unusual currents to Hawaii in the early morning hours on Thursday.

The Visitor’s Center, parking lot and lookouts on the upper level remained open to the public while the beach level was closed.
