Small earthquake felt on Big Island

HILO, BIG ISLAND (HawaiiNewsNow) - A small earthquake rattled an area just off shore of the Big Island Thursday afternoon.

The quake had a preliminary magnitude of 3.7 and happened at 12:32 p.m. near Leilani Estates on Hawaii Island, or 27 miles south of Hilo. It occurred at a depth of about four miles.

Residents in the Mountain View area describe the quake as feeling like a "long, slow roll".
