Portion of King Street reopened following critical pedestrian accident

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

A man is in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle Tuesday evening.

According to Honolulu police, a wheelchair-bound man in his 60s was crossing the road near the intersection of South King Street and Hausten Street at around 8:15 p.m. when he was hit by a vehicle making a left out of the Long's Drugs parking lot. Police said he was not in a marked crosswalk at the time.

Paramedics treated the man and transported him to the Queen's Medical Center in critical condition with head trauma.

The driver of the vehicle, a woman in her 50s, was not injured.

Police closed King Street between Hausten Street to University Avenue as they conducted their investigation.

The road has since been reopened.
