KAHULUI, MAUI (HawaiiNewsNow) - A pedestrian from Wailuku died Sunday after being hit by a vehicle while trying to run across Kaahumanu Avenue on Maui, Maui police said.

According to MPD, Terence John Moniz, 48, was not in a marked crosswalk when he was hit at around 8:20 p.m. by the Ford Edge MPVH that was traveling eastbound on Kaahumanu Avenue near Kahului Beach Road. Moniz was taken to the Maui Memorial Medical Center in critical condition where he later died.

The 73-year-old driver from Kihei was not injured. He was wearing his seatbelt at the time.
