Mariota 'perfect' in NFL debut against Tampa Bay

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Tennessee Titans rookie quarterback Marcus Mariota threw for 4 touchdown passes in the first half, finished the game with a perfect passer rating and defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 42-7 in his NFL debut on Sunday.

After throwing just one touchdown pass during the Titans four preseason games, it would've been hard to imagine a better regular season start for the Saint Louis School graduate and Heisman Trophy winner; Mariota finished the game 13 of 16 passing for 185 yards, four touchdowns, no interceptions, and a perfect 158.3 passer rating.

He was replaced early in the fourth quarter by back-up quarterback Zach Mettenberger after the Titans took a commanding 42-7 lead.

Never before in pro football history had a rookie quarterback thrown for 4 touchdowns in the first half of his NFL debut, and the 28 points that resulted from those touchdowns totaled the season high the Titans had scored in any game last season.
