HILO, BIG ISLAND (HawaiiNewsNow) - A Hilo man has been charged for stealing ukuleles and government vehicles, according to Big Island police.
Police initially arrested 26-year-old Blue Kela on suspicion of first-degree theft Wednesday after he was caught near a white Dodge Dakota pickup truck that was reported stolen from the state Department of Agriculture.
Investigators discovered that Kela also stole Hawaii County's two Jeep Cherokees in August from parking lots on Aupuni Street.
Further investigation revealed that Kela stole six ukuleles from a Downtown Hilo store on July 31 after he damaged a door and broke into the building.
His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Thursday in Hilo District Court.
