PUNA, BIG ISLAND (HawaiiNewsNow) - 40-year old Sean Rutledge was indicted by a grand jury this afternoon for allegedly killing his own mother, 63-year Nadean Rutledge.
She was found dead on August 25 outside her home on the corner of Kapoho Kai Drive and Waiopae Road.
Police sources tell me she had stab wounds in her back.
Sean Rutledge was indicted for second degree murder today.
He was being held for an unrelated warrant and that gave authorities enough time to get the indictment.
"He was being held on an extradition warrant out of California, being held without bail," says Big Island Prosecuting Attorney Mitch Roth, "But as we have charged him with this case, he'll stay here for this case before he gets extradited to California."
Relatives tell me they are relieved.
"Very thankful," says Mary Lou Powell, the victim's sister-in-law, "I hope they sock it to him."
