Hawaiian Telcom expands high speed internet to rural areas

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Hawaiian Telcom's Vice President of External Affairs Steve Golden appeared on Sunrise today to talk about the expansion of high speed internet across the state. The federal government will pay the company about $26 million over the next several years to help them broaden coverage, particularly to rural areas in Hawaii County. Eventually, it will add 11,000 locations with broadband services and include south Kona as well as parts of the Hamakua, Hawi and Puna areas. The speed will be increased to 10 megabits per second.
