HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Honolulu firefighters have returned to a home that caught fire in the Punchbowl area Saturday night. Flames and smoke were seen coming from the hilltop three-story multifamily home at 1975 Puowaina Dr. around 3:30 Tuesday morning.
Honolulu fire officials say that fire destroyed the top floor creating a collapse hazard Saturday night when nearly 40 firefighters responded to the fire at the property.
A man was home at the time of the weekend fire but a escaped unharmed. It's believed no one was inside the property today due to the home's existing unstable condition.
HFD Captain David Jenkins says the cause will remain undetermined because investigators cannot get to the point of origin due to the structure's vulnerability to collapse.
Damage is estimated at $230,000.
