LIHUE, KAUAI (HawaiiNewsNow) - One woman is on a mission to run in every state in the nation, all to honor her sister.
Laura Edwards will run the Kauai Half Marathon this Sunday, September 6, to support the 30 million Americans who suffer from rare diseases.
The North Carolina native says she was inspired by her younger sister, Taylor King, who ran two 5K races after losing her vision to a rare and fatal condition known as Batten's disease.
Edwards completed one race while blindfolded, and is making the trip to Hawaii while she still has the chance to tell her sister about it.
"One of my most favorite memories of her is the month before she was diagnosed, she was dancing in the moonlight wearing a Hawaiian lei around her neck and telling me how much she really dreamed of coming to these islands," Edwards explained. "I wanted to do it early in my journey while I could still share the story with her."
Kauai will mark the 8th state in Edward's journey, and her goal is to complete races in all 50 states within the next five years.
