Gary D. Ramos, 59, of Koloa, was today sentenced to serve 10 years in prison for a variety of charges relating to his possession of 13 grams of crystal methamphetamine in 2012.

Ramos was found guilty after a three-day jury trial in June of Promoting a Dangerous Drug in the second degree, a class B felony, two counts of illegal possession of drug paraphernalia, both class C felonies, and three petty misdemeanor counts of Promoting a Detrimental Drug in the third degree.

Fifth Circuit Chief Judge Randal G.B. Valenciano handed down the sentence after hearing arguments from First Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Jennifer S. Winn and defense counsel Craig A. De Costa.

Testimony during the trial revealed that on Aug. 29, 2012, KPD Vice Officers executed a search warrant on Ramos and his residence in Koloa.  At the time, Ramos was in possession of 13 grams of methamphetamine packaged in multiple baggies, as well as drug paraphernalia and marijuana.

Prosecuting Attorney Justin F. Kollar stated, “Ice is stealing lives every day in our community. Those who distribute it are predators and their presence in our community cannot be tolerated.”
