6th Annual Rice Fest at Ward Village

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The 6th annual Hawaii Ricefest, a fundraiser for Lanakila Meals-on-Wheels, will be held this Saturday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., at Ward Village. Howard Dicus spoke with Ed Sugimoto, founder of the event, and Chef Mavro, who is cooking Oursinade.

Oursin means sea urchin, one common but now harder to come by on the French coast. Mavro makes with Kauai shrimp, and uses rice instead of egg, making the dish both lighter and tastier. It's Provence by way of Japan by way of Kauai.

Rice Fest is an opportunity for people from a variety of cultures to come together and celebrate the unique elements that unite them.

At the Rice Fest you will experience Hawaii's culinary diversity via food demonstrations, entertainment and more. This festival celebrates the world's melting pot for the otherwise ordinary grain. This daily staple is transformed and infused with new and fantastic flavors that tantalize the taste buds.

Rice Fest will include live entertainment, celebrity & chef cooking competitions, and a SPAM musubi eating contest. Featured entertainment this year includes Heart & Soul, Honoka & Azita, the Ukulele Hale Super Kids and more.
