MAUI (HawaiiNewsNow) - The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a Flood Advisory for the island of Maui until 6 p.m. and the Big Island until 4:15 p.m. Wednesday.
At 12:54 p.m., radar on Maui showed heavy rain falling at rates of 2 inches per hour along Windward East Maui near Huelo, or about 15 miles east of Kahului. The area of heavy rain was nearly stationary.
On the Big Island, radar showed areas of heavy showers and thunderstorms with rain rates around 2 inches per hour near Waimea, along Saddle Road, and over the upper Puna slopes. Additional heavy showers are expected through the afternoon.
This advisory may need to be extended if heavy rain persists.
