KULA, MAUI (HawaiiNewsNow) - Maui fire crews rescued three people stranded by flood waters at the Bamboo Forest Trail Sunday afternoon.
Firefighters arrived at the trail at around 1:25 p.m. where they met hikers who said the three people were trapped on the Kahului side of the stream near the fish pond.
According to fire officials, a male visitor from Canada got separated from his group and couldn't cross the stream because of rising waters. He was then joined by a female from Wailuku and her male friend visiting from out of state. All three, in their mid-20s, were on their way to the parking lot before they got stranded.
A helicopter airlifted the individuals from the stream bank to a pasture near Hana Highway.
No injuries were reported.
