WAIKIKI (HawaiiNewsNow) - By Taylor Preza
Dozens of volunteers have gathered Saturday to clean the sidewalks of Waikiki, remove trash, and scrub various areas along Kalakaua Avenue as part of the Waikiki Project Clean 2015.
Thousands of visitors and residents walk along Kalakaua Avenue each and every day. This constant activity can leave the area dirty and uninviting at times, prompting the urge to clean the street.
This year, volunteers have used an all natural cleaning agent to help in the process. The aqueous ozone cleaning product donated by Inovi Green, a locally owned company, is not harmful to people or the environment. It helped to clean the area safely and more effectively than any other product. According to the company, it is 3,000 times faster acting and 50 percent stronger at killing viruses and bacteria than chlorine bleach.
The agent is also effective in getting rid of bad odors that often are complained about in Waikiki. It leaves no chemical residue and is completely safe for the aina.
The group started at the the Duke Kahanamoku statue and then made their way down Kalakaua Avenue cleaning the sidewalks, pavilions, and the first comfort station.
The Waikiki Project Clean is sponsored annually by the Honolulu Police Department.
