High Surf Advisory in effect for west-facing shores of Big Island

HILO, BIG ISLAND (HawaiiNewsNow) - A west swell approaching the Hawaiian islands will produce higher surf, prompting the National Weather Service to issue a High Surf Advisory for west-facing shores of the Big Island.

The advisory is in effect until 6 p.m. Saturday.

Forecasters said surf along west-facing shores will be between 5 to 8 feet.

Beachgoers should expect strong breaking waves, shore break and strong longshore and rip currents that will make swimming difficult and dangerous.
