Central Pacific Bank forms an alliance with Sapporo-based North Pacific Bank, also known as Hokuyo Bank. They'll develop business together. Central Pacific has 36 branches. Hokuyo has 175.

UH Hilo has a new dean for the College of Pharmacy - Carolyn Ma, a former pharmacist for Queen's, worked in Hong Kong before joining the school in 2007.

Andrew Nelson, a former intern with Judge David Ezra, joins the law firm of Yamamoto Caliboso, which specializes in energy and telecoms issues.

Wayne Wehr of Servco Pacific Insurance is now executive VP of the division - and Jacinda Elias will be senior VP - Wehr previously worked for Bishop Insurance, Elias for Atlas Insurance.

This weekend the Hawaii chapter of the American Institute of Architects gives its Medal of Honor to Don Goo. He was lead local architect on the Convention Center. AIA awarded its first Medal of Honor to Vladimir Ossipoff in 1998 and only five other people have ever gotten it.

A party on the Big Island tonight - a second birthday party for Pueo's Osteria - Chef James, who came from Four Seasons Hualalai, says party will run until 2 a.m.
