HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Humanizing the homeless, that was the project that Maui woman Diana Kim was working on at the time when she finally found her father. After years of being apart, Kim learned that her father had schizophrenia, had been kicked out of his apartment and was living on the streets of Oahu. She went looking for him and found the man emaciated and dirty. It was a shock, and also emotionally difficult because Kim said, her own father was so mentally ill, he didn't recognize her. For two agonizing years, she would look for him and document him walking around. Finally, he had a heart attack, an incident, she believes saved his life. Her dad became mentally lucid and is now looking for a job. Kim appeared on Sunrise to share her heartbreaking and inspirational story. You can read more about it on her blog HomelessParadise.com.
