Concrete barriers at Laniakea will soon be removed

HALEIWA, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

More than a year after the Department of Transportation put up concrete barriers at North Shore's famed Laniakea Beach, they will soon be coming down.

The state installed the barriers in December 2013 in an effort to ease North Shore traffic, but residents and visitors just parked further down the road.

The "Save Laniakea Coalition" filed two lawsuits to get the barriers removed, claiming they never did anything to keep traffic flowing.

The barriers are scheduled to come down on Monday, August 24.
