PEARL CITY, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Students from Southern Japan arrived in Hawaii Tuesday morning for a cultural exchange program.
The fifth and sixth graders are spending the week on Oahu, first with students at Momilani Elementary School in Pearl City. They will also visit Ho'okele Elementary in Kapolei and a few middle schools.
The eight students were chosen out of 150 from the city of Hyuga, on the island of Kyushu.
On their first day, they shared cultural traditions, built tiny robots in science class, and even had school lunch with the rest of the student body.
In October, eight Momilani Elementary students will be visiting them in Japan.
This is the fifth time the schools have participated in the exchange program.
