HILO, BIG ISLAND (HawaiiNewsNow) - Big Island police have charged an Illinois man accused of brutally murdering a homeless woman.
Her body was found at about 1 a.m. Friday in downtown Hilo. Officers arrested Curtis Hodges at a hostel hours later.
His bail is set at $500,000.
Authorities say he may face additional charges depending on the results of forensic lab testing.
The 35-year-old has an extensive criminal record on the mainland which includes sex crimes and assault.
The victim in this case has been identified through fingerprints but detectives are still trying to locate her family.
