The Waianae Coast Comprehensive Health Center (WCCHC) has kicked off its celebration of National Community Health Center Week with a 5K run and the Waianae Eat Local Challenge Kickoff on Saturday, August 15.
More than 350 participants registered for the 5K. They started and finished at the Waianae Mall, where the farmers' market was also held.
The top three male and female finishers, as well as a keiki (12 and under), and kupuna (65 and over) from the divisions have received medals. And a random prize drawing will be done for all finishers.
Participants had a chance to complete their stamp card for a chance to win prizes including a Go Pro camera, kui board and more at the September 12 Challenge Finale.
The Waianae Eat Local Challenge Kickoff encourages people to eat healthy and support local farmers at Makeke Waianae - a Farmers' Market owned and operated by WCCHC.
There were over 35 local farmers and food vendors at the event.
From 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. every Saturday from August 15 to September 12, the challenge will take place at Waianae Mall.
Participants can register any Saturday during the Challenge at the Makeke Waianae Information Booth. Those who register will receive a free gift bag and recipes. Those who attend all five Saturdays will win a Waianae Eat Local Challenge trucker hat.
This is the second year the Challenge is being held.
