No tsunami threat to Hawaii after 6.6-magnitude quake near Solomon Islands

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

A large earthquake shook the Solomon Islands Friday evening, but it was not strong enough to generate a tsunami warning to Hawaii, according to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.

The quake, which struck around 10 p.m. HST, was initially measured at a magnitude of 6.6.

No injuries or damages have been reported.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center issued the following statement:

"Based on all available data a destructive pacific-wide tsunami is not expected and there is no tsunami threat to Hawaii."
