Autopsy report shows Danielle Caron died of multiple stab wounds to the neck area.
The 49-year old woman who was found murdered in downtown Hilo Friday morning has been identified as Danielle Caron. Police sources say the homeless woman had her throat slashed.
Caron was reported missing in March of last year and Big Island police had been searching for her for several weeks. She was found in Honoka'a unharmed.
The man accused of killing her, 35-year old Curtis Hodges of Illinois, is charged with second degree murder and will be in court later today.
An Illinois man visiting Hilo has been arrested in connection with the rape and murder of a homeless woman in Downtown Hilo.
Police sources tell Hawaii News Now that a homeless man discovered the body of the 49-year old homeless woman off Kamehameha Avenue about 1 a.m.
A nearby business had video footage which helped lead police to the suspect.
35-year-old Curtis Hodges of Shiloh, Illinois, is charged with second-degree murder. He was arrested within hours of the discovery at a hostel located off Waianuenue Avenue in Hilo.
Hodges has a criminal record on the mainland and was once a registered sex offender.
"Always disturbing, of course, this is your home so you don't want anything like that to happen to anybody at any point in time," says resident Paloma Johnson.
