Construction worker injured in traffic crash

LIHUE, KAUAI (HawaiiNewsNow) -

A 48-year-old construction worker is in stable condition after he was struck by a pickup truck while working along Hardy Street in Lihue Wednesday morning.

The Kapa‘a man had been working on the Hardy Street Improvement Project, fronting the Lihue Library, when at approximately 10:30 a.m., a Ford pickup truck struck a plastic barrier before striking him, propelling him several feet from where he had been standing. The truck then ran over a portable generator before coming to a stop along the sidewalk.

The victim was transported to Wilcox Hospital in stable condition.

The driver of the truck, age 41, of Koloa, was not injured.

No arrests have been made at this time; however, police continue their investigation of the crash.

Hardy Street was closed from roughly 10:45 to 11:30 a.m.
